Into To Nyamuagira

Nyamuagira is a sheild volcano. It is a continental volcano. Nyamuagira is one of the most active volcanoes in Africa. Most of the time its eruptions are not damaging and are well warned. Nyamuagira is a beautiful volcano than is a great thing to see.

Geologic Location

Nyamuagira is in the Congo in Africa. It is 9 miles north west of the city of Nyiragongo. Its coordanites are: Latitude: 1° 24' 35 S, Longitude: 29° 12' 25 E. It is on the African plate in the East Africa Rift Zone.

Eruption History

Mt. Nyamuagira is a very active volcano in Cuba, Africa. Its most recent eruption was May 19th 2004. One of the most famous eruptions was January 29th 2002. Lava came out the easter flank and the entire Goma population evacutated. Forteen cities were severly damaged but thanks to the evacuation few people were hurt of killed.

Nyamuagira is consisted of many layers of basaltic lava that has cooled into igneous rock. This is a stratovolcano. This means that it is a steep-sloped structure composed of layers of solidified ash, hardened lava, and rocks ejected from other eruptions. Nyamuagira is also home to many craters.

Nyamuagira is not a very explosive volcano. It consists of a non viscus basaltic lava. Because of this non viscus lava, dangers include lava flows that are easy to run away from but damaging to crops, villages, and anything in its way.

Enviornmental Dangers

Lava flows are fatel to crops and villages. Wiled life is in danger after an eruption due to ash coated vegitation. Nyamuagira also realeases sulfer dioxide which causes a threat to the ozone layer.
